Grandma's trick that demonstrates the importance of putting vinegar before oil when dressing salad

In the kitchen, the order of the factors does alter the product. The moment in which we incorporate the ingredients in a preparation significantly influences the result. And this also applies to salad dressing.

What comes first, oil or vinegar? A priori you may think that the order does not matter, or that the oil comes first because it has the greatest prominence. But according to a video posted on the social network TikTok, the correct thing to do is to start the salad dressing with vinegar.

It is no secret that oil is a substance with a lot of body, difficult to mix and that provides a certain waterproofing of the food it surrounds. Not in vain, when you add it to a pan or a pot, it not only makes it easier to cook the food, but also helps to prevent it from sticking to the pan, pot or tray in the case of the oven.

Well, the same thing happens with the salad dressing. TikTok user @dokyto76 has shared a video where he shows in a simple, practical and very visual way why it is advisable to incorporate the vinegar first before the oil when dressing the salad.

First, pour a splash of oil into a small saucer and then add a few drops of vinegar. After turning the plate a few times, we can see how both liquids do not completely melt, nor do they spread to the rest of the plate, acting as the oil as a barrier.

“When you dress a salad, always add the vinegar before the oil, because if we add the oil first, what it does to the salad leaf is waterproof that leaf and, when we add the vinegar, what it does is slide through the oil and "It doesn't infuse our salad with flavors," explains the author of the video.

Beyond the practical advice shown in the video, emulsifying the ingredients with which we will dress the salad is the perfect formula to guarantee a good balance of flavors.

To do it, just put the ingredients with which you are going to dress the salad in a small container (preferably with a lid). Whether the basics are oil, vinegar and salt, or adding other components such as honey, spices, lemon juice or some other sauce.

Next, if the container has a lid, close it and shake it well so that all the ingredients are completely mixed. If you don't have a jar with a lid, stirring vigorously with a spoon will suffice. Immediately afterwards, pour the dressing over the salad. And an extra trick: if you stir the leaves with your hands, the dressing will impregnate them more evenly, of course it is essential to wash your hands beforehand.
