Route through the attractions of Sant Joan les Fonts

I have made a small route, as we see in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, around the small town of Sant Joan les Fonts, in La Garrotxa, with its medieval bridge (built with volcanic stone), the Salt del Molí Fondo and the beautiful, beautiful, monastery.

The Fluvià river is crossed by the medieval bridge from the 13th century, which connects the town with the new church of Sant Joan Baptista, also built with the same type of volcanic stone and which gives it that dark gray, almost black color.

At the foot of the unfinished tower, climbing some stairs, a path passes that takes us to the Molí Fondo, an old paper mill that already existed in 1723 located next to a waterfall. In front of the mill you can see three basalt flows from different eruption sites.

Following the path towards Boscarró takes us to a viewpoint from which we can see the mill, the church and the surrounding area. If we continue along it we reach the remains of an Iberian town from the 4th to 2nd centuries BC. C. where amphorae, tableware and ceramics from that time and of Greek and Punic origin have been found.

Further on, on the outskirts of the town and next to the cemetery, we find the monastery, an old priory dependent on Sant Victor de Marseille, after Sant Pere de Besalú until 1592 and until 1835 it depended on Sant Pere de Camprodón.
