The Santa Coloma de Gramenet police focus on electric scooters

In the last days of March, the Local Police of Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès Nord), in collaboration with the Servei Català de Tràfic, has carried out a special campaign focused on reducing accidents caused by distractions behind the wheel and, especially, for failure to comply with traffic and circulation rules.

The Santa Coloma de Gramenet police focus on electric scooters

In the last days of March, the Local Police of Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès Nord), in collaboration with the Servei Català de Tràfic, has carried out a special campaign focused on reducing accidents caused by distractions behind the wheel and, especially, for failure to comply with traffic and circulation rules. As a result of this campaign, a total of 48 drivers of motor vehicles and 90 users of Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP) have been reported for violating traffic and circulation regulations.

Of the 90 complaints registered related to VMP driving, 28.9% refer to driving on sidewalks, standing out as one of the most common infractions, followed by the use of headphones while driving (15%) or exceeding a limit. red light (12.2%). It should be noted that, during the controls carried out in recent days, Local Police officers have immobilized a total of 13 scooters for presenting technical manipulations with the aim of increasing the speed of the devices. In this sense, and during one of the controls carried out, the Local Police detected and immobilized an electric scooter that reached a maximum speed of 127 km/h.

Regarding complaints related to distractions behind the wheel of motor vehicles, 47.9% correspond to running red lights, while 33% of the violations detected are related to the improper use of mobile phones while driving.

For the mayor of the city, Núria Parlon, distractions behind the wheel and non-compliance with traffic rules, especially by drivers of personal mobility vehicles (scooters), "represent a significant challenge for road safety, challenges that we address with determination thanks to the commitment and effort of the Local Police officers carrying out this type of controls.”

The mayor details that "the campaigns developed by the Local Police are aimed at raising the awareness of drivers with the aim of reducing road accidents in the city and to ensure compliance with traffic regulations", highlighting the effort in surveillance. preventive and control carried out by the patrols and motorists of the Local Police with the aim of "promoting a safer road environment for drivers, pedestrians and users of public roads, while demonstrating zero tolerance for these uncivil behaviors at the wheel" .
