The allegedly Mexican-inspired fast food chain Taco Bell has received a class action lawsuit for deceptive advertising in the United States for its 'Mexican Pizza'.
The complaint has been promoted by the citizen Frank Siragusa after having consumed this product last September in a New York establishment with only half the filling of meat and beans as promised in its promotional photos.
The lawsuit has been filed in a Brooklyn court and Siragusa accuses the company of misleading consumers by falsely advertising that its Mexican Pizza, Veggie Mexican Pizza, Crunchwrap Supreme, Grande Crunchwrap and Vegan Crunchwrap contain "at least twice" as much as in their real versions.
In its indictment, Siragusa has included a series of promotional photos showing these dishes brimming with beef, cheese and assorted vegetables, along with another series of "real" snapshots of these served items that other customers have posted online.
According to the text of the filed lawsuit, Taco Bell's ads are "unfair and financially damaging to consumers," and "especially concerning now that inflation, food, and meat prices are so high and many consumers, especially of lower income, have economic difficulties”.
The complaint seeks at least $5 million in compensation for all Taco Bell customers who have purchased the five items listed above in New York State in the past three years.
For its part, Taco Bell has not wanted to comment on the accusations made in this lawsuit.
