Evenepoel wins his first Belgian road title

Remco Evenepoel (Quick Step) surprised the sprinters and, with a masterful move, managed to proclaim himself the Belgian road champion for the first time in his career.

Evenepoel, who had to retire from the Giro when he was leading the general classification, was accurate in delivering the final blow to the race, leaving with Alec Segaert (Lotto-Dstny) and ending up beating the sprint without giving the sprinters any options at the finish line from Izegem.

A break in which illustrious names such as Wout van Aert and Yves Lampaert were found enlivened the test. It was aborted on the last lap of the circuit and everything was ready for the maneuver of Evenepoel, the current world champion, who set a time of 4h52:02, the same as Segaert, while Jasper Stuyven hung the bronze by being the first of the next group, which reached twelve seconds.
