The Medical Union of Seville has denounced the verbal aggression suffered by a doctor at the Lora del Río health center (Seville) by a 70-year-old woman who, allegedly, insulted the doctor for being a foreigner. , since she would have refused to be treated by a doctor who was not of Spanish nationality.
The events publicly disseminated by the union in a statement took place on April 30, around 9:30 p.m., in the Emergency Service of the aforementioned office. The doctor who was on duty tried to calm her down, but the patient “continued with her demands, began to hurl xenophobic insults and tried to physically attack the doctor.”
In this sense, the medical union highlights that the health professional had to be helped at first by a fellow guard and, later, by the Civil Guard, "thus preventing the situation from escalating and causing physical injuries."
The SMS considers that the insults that the alleged perpetrator of the attack would have launched “are expressions that could be framed within a crime of hate and humiliation.” In this regard, the doctor required medical attention due to the stress suffered while trying to carry out her work.
The Medical Union has demanded that all necessary measures be taken to guarantee the safety of professionals "who, regardless of their origin, deserve all our respect and admiration."
