At the first changes, eight days ago, the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, earned easy applause in a feminist forum by saying that the girl who committed suicide in Sallent "was called Iván." Now, to settle a controversy that should never have existed - and less encouraged from a ministry - the parents have been forced to clarify that "She was not called Iván, her name was Alana".
Is there not a single feminist woman in all of Spain who is more capable, mature and responsible than Irene Montero, a specialist in polarizing society and weakening the causes she claims to defend?
The minister lady usually hides behind how bad and retrograde those who criticize her are. And the good thing is that she seems to believe it so that, from puddle to puddle, she maintains a position that is great for her and has the trademark of the house in the agitation. How cheap it is to be a minister!
The clarification of Alana's parents reflects – in my opinion – an additional degree of suffering that never, ever should have been created. Where is the respect for the pain, heartbreak and sorrow of some parents who have just buried a girl who decided to commit suicide? Why hurt them for political objectives, however legitimate they may be?
I understand that a coalition government is complex. This is how the voters wanted it and this is what there is in Spain. What I do not quite understand is that such a situation shields a minister from committing so many blunders, although I imagine that it is convenient for the PSOE in order to return to a bipartisanship that one misses in view of what "the new policy". If this strategy is true, couldn't they agree with the partners of United We Can someone less activist and more sensible?
All the blunders of Minister Montero – a prototype of a very posturing institutional feminism – only make fracturing and bitter, I would say, even feminism itself, in view of the divisions in the face of 8-M.
And I no longer tell you about the manna and the bargain that they represent for Vox. Politics aside, what "his name is Iván" period is an episode that causes embarrassment.
