Generalitat Valenciana urges the use of a mask in schools in the event of minor symptoms of contagion

The Generalitat has sent a circular to the educational centers of the Community with recommendations to avoid the transmission of respiratory viruses in classrooms. Among other measures, the administration urges people to wear a mask if minor symptoms appear and not to go to class if they detect other signs of illness.

In the current health context, the Department of Education, Universities and Employment and the Department of Health have made a series of recommendations to non-university educational centers that aim to avoid the transmission of respiratory viruses in classrooms after the Christmas holidays, they point out in a statement.

Given the current epidemiological situation and the increase in cases of flu and acute respiratory infections (ARI), both departments of the Valencian government remind schools of the importance of reinforcing preventive measures in educational environments to reduce, as much as possible, , the transmission and incidence of respiratory viruses.

In this sense, it is recommended that some prevention measures be followed, such as vaccination against influenza and SARS-Cov2, for all teaching and auxiliary staff in the educational environment and that they maintain contact with students.

In the event of minor symptoms of acute respiratory illness - such as coughing, sneezing or runny nose - it is recommended that students, teachers and auxiliary staff use a mask. If you have other symptoms such as fever above 38 degrees, general malaise and/or respiratory difficulty, it is recommended not to attend the educational center.

In addition, the circular insists on the importance of hand hygiene by washing frequently with soap and water or a hydroalcoholic solution, as well as avoiding touching the nose, eyes, mouth or mask.

Finally, educational centers have been recommended to naturally ventilate classrooms and areas of high social interaction, maintaining an adequate temperature.
