Teams, Zoom and Meet tremble: WhatsApp is ready for video calls with shared screen

WhatsApp will become a direct competition to Teams, Zoom or Meet in a very short time. The instant messaging platform has implemented a new feature for video calls in the latest Android beta version, with which users can share their screen with the other participants in a call. The service owned by Meta has a clear advantage over its competitors: in countries like Spain, the use of WhatsApp is massive. Nine out of ten smartphone users have this application.

As reported by WaBetaInfo, the platform has included this novelty in the beta version 2.23.11.19 of Android and is part of the improvements that it has been including in its application, with the aim of offering improvements in video calls.

To share the screen, the social network has introduced a new icon with the silhouette of a screen, located among the options that are displayed at the bottom of the screen during the video call.

If the user wants to show information, specific content or share data with the participants of a video call, they only have to press this option. Everything on your screen will then begin to be recorded and shared with the users who are participating in the video call.

The possibility of screen sharing can only be carried out if the user gives their consent for WhatsApp to proceed to record the screen, so that the platform will send a notification indicating so. Also, the user can end the screen sharing process at any time.

According to WaBetaInfo, this new feature will not reach all chats. It will not be available in groups with a large number of members and will not be accessible to users who do not have the most current version of the service.

In this same update of the Android beta version, WhatsApp has also implemented some changes related to the bottom navigation bar. In particular, the location of some tabs has been reorganized, which are now displayed in order of Chats, Calls, Communities and Status.

There is no date for these updates to reach mobile phones, although from this portal they assure that it will be in the coming weeks.
