David Alonso, the flying Colombian: from 12th to winner in Montmeló

David Alonso, a 17-year-old Colombian born in Madrid, pilot of the Aspar Moto3 team, did it again: playing the Colombian anthem in the Motorcycle World Championship, never heard until the last British GP, after a brutal comeback. If in Silverstone he achieved his first victory with an impressive climb from last place (28th) to first, in Montmeló he took the second success with another feat, from 12th on the grid to winner, after a spectacular end to the race of the small displacement at the Catalunya GP.

"It's unbelievable, it's a circuit that's hard for me, this victory feels fantastic to me, the team has done a fantastic job, in the race I was smart to win the battle on the last lap, I'm very happy to have been able to do it "commented David Alonso, a 17-year-old Moto3 rookie, who with this second victory rises to 6th place in the World Championship.

Alonso beat Jaume Masià and Juan Antonio Rueda, also a 17-year-old rookie, in a last lap of heart attack, after a close dispute with the leader Daniel Holgado, who fell at the La Caixa curve, and with Deniz Öncü, who he threw David Muñoz at the start of the finish straight and was penalized with 6 seconds (which promoted Rueda to the podium).

Iván Ortolá started on pole, but Öncü immediately enlivened the race by taking command, in which he took turns with Masià, Alonso and Holgado during the 17 laps.

In the last one, Holgado led the front group ahead of Alonso, Masià, the Turk Öncü and Muñoz, who with a brutal overtaking took first before the La Caixa curve. There only Holgado fell. At the very tight entrance to the finish line, Alonso took the lead, with Masià behind him, and with Muñoz on the ground after being knocked down by the impetuous Öncü, who was penalized and dropped back to 12th position.
