The Neighborhood Federation criticizes the proposal to make ponds to avoid settlements

The Federació d'Associacions Veïnals de València (FAAVV) has shown its firm disagreement with the proposal launched by the Vox councilor and member of the government team of the Valencia City Council Juanma Badenas to build ponds under the bridges of the Turia Garden with the objective of preventing homeless people from taking refuge there. A proposal that has already been reduced to one more possibility for the future by mayor María José Catalá.

“This measure seems totally unsupportive and irresponsible to us,” said the president of the neighborhood entity, María José Broseta, in a statement. Broseta added that it is the responsibility of all public administrations, including the City Council, "to offer a housing alternative to those who do not have decent housing, as stated in the Constitution itself."

In this sense, the Neighborhood Federation has urged the municipal government team to urgently rectify the announcement made by the Department of Security and the Department of Parks and Gardens. Likewise, the president of the Neighborhood Federation has highlighted that it is necessary for the Social Welfare Area of the City Council to speak out on the matter. “We want to know if this is going to be the social services policy that the current Government team is going to develop or if it is a lack of coordination between delegations that will be clarified immediately,” said María José Broseta.

The Federació d'Associacions Veïnals de València has also announced that an urgent meeting will be requested with the Department of Social Services to not only receive confirmation that this project is not going to be carried out, but also to find out the realization of the plans and solutions proposed by the municipal government to address the issue appropriately and ensure that there is no person in the city without a decent home.

In this sense, the president of the Neighborhood Federation has indicated: "It is necessary that the doubts regarding this project that the mayor has conveyed be translated into a concrete and formal clarification on what exactly the line to be followed by the Government of the city on this issue.”
