Barcelona closes the bakeries and 24 hours of Tuset Street and surrounding areas at night

The government of Mayor Jaume Collboni will restrict this summer the hours of the 24-hour bakeries and supermarkets that operate on Tuset Street and surrounding areas, one of the busiest nightlife areas in Barcelona.

The councilor responsible for the Sarrià-Sant Gervasí district, the socialist Maria Eugènia Gay, explains that the measure aims to put an end to the crowds that form in front of these businesses at dawn that bother the neighbors so much.

"Our objective - Councilor Gay added - is to protect the rest of the neighbors and stop the coexistence problems that are occurring. The problem is that some clients of the nightclubs and restaurants in the area then gather in front of these establishments."

The restriction will come into force this June, and will force five bakeries and a supermarket to remain closed from ten at night to seven in the morning from Thursday to Sunday and also on holiday vigils.

Councilor Gay also explained that the measure will initially operate for six months, and then, based on the results recorded, the City Council will decide whether to extend it or even extend it to other parts of the city.
