A new underpass in Santa Susanna will allow the Pineda level crossing to be closed

The space known as Llàntia in the municipality of Santa Susanna, on the border with Pineda de Mar (Maresme) will host a new underground passage under the train track that will lead to the construction of two roads parallel to the railway structure that will connect both coastal towns. . Yesterday the rethinking of some works began that will begin in a few days. The project has accumulated eight months of delays.

For Santa Susanna, the 14-meter-wide by four-and-a-half-meter-high passage will promote the project to renaturalize the coastline, and specifically the Les Dunes beach, and will facilitate the connection with the neighboring municipality with two seven-meter-wide roads. wide, in addition to eliminating vehicle traffic along the promenade. This Tuesday, the two mayors, Joan Campolier and Xavier Amor, visited the land where the new infrastructure will be built within a maximum period of 12 months. Two car parks, the one in Santa Susanna for 200 vehicles and another similar one on the Platja dels Pins in Pineda, will regulate access to the Les Dunes promenade and the sea.

In the area of Pineda de Mar, two access ramps to the beach will also be built, both for vehicles and pedestrians. The current underground access at Santiago Rusinyol Street will be for the exclusive use of pedestrians. If the planned deadlines are met, an essential requirement to avoid putting supra-municipal subsidies at risk, the completion of the works will occur before summer 2025.

Of the 5,344,881.70 euros that the work costs, Santa Susanna, through a subsidy from Next Generation Funds of the European Union, subscribed to the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, will contribute 2,672,440.85 euros. The Pineda City Council will spend 218,000 euros to modify the accesses and the Railway Infrastructure Administrator (ADIF) will contribute 2,454,440.85 euros, as committed by the Ministry of Ecological Transition to both mayors.

Precisely, Adif, as stated in the agreement signed with the town councils, will process the definitive closure of the level crossing with a barrier next to the Pineda Renfe station. An action that does not seduce the municipal government, which, as the mayor, Xavier Amor, advanced yesterday, will try to negotiate another option. Amor also announced that all pedestrian crossings in the municipality to the beach will be enabled.
