The technological multinational Oracle inaugurated yesterday in Barcelona a new health hub for the south of Europe, from which it will support customers in the area who are applying its technology to modernize health care, both hospitals and companies insurance, startups in the sector or the public administrations themselves.

The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès; Oracle Executive Vice President and Director of Oracle Health, Travis Dalton; the Minister of Health, José Manuel Miñones, and the general director of Oracle Iberia, Albert Triola, presided over the inauguration of the center, located in the Glòries tower, where the local offices of the multinational are located, which now employs Catalonia to more than 400 people.

Travis Dalton explained that the center "is just the beginning" of the company's plans for Barcelona. "We chose the city for the location, the education system, the technology and the quality of life, so that it helps us attract the best talent in the world to the company."

The new European center will initially hire 60 people, but expects to reach 300, and will focus on supporting the design of customers' systems, so that at the same time they can comply with the data protection and residency regulations that each country has. With 24-hour service, the center will place a special focus on cyber security to prevent incidents due to intrusions or system crashes, and to reduce recovery time if necessary.

Minister Miñones pointed out that the opening of the center is an opportunity for job creation and to "consolidate and develop the innovation ecosystem in digital health, which is starting to become a reference on a European scale". The Minister of Health recalled that the Central Government is promoting the Digital Health strategy, with a budget of more than 800 million euros, to which an additional 150 million will be added for a Personalized Digital Care Plan, coming from of the addendum to the Next Generation European funds that the EC has already approved.

President Aragonès celebrated the opening of the Oracle center, which reinforces "the primacy and leadership of Catalonia in biomedical research", and the impact it will have on the creation of quality employment.

Oracle already has the Oracle NetSuite international development hub in Barcelona, with professionals from around 40 different nationalities who develop cloud software for small and medium-sized companies around the world.
