Boye predicts that Puigdemont will return even if he could be arrested

For now, there are more unknowns than certainties about Carles Puigdemont's steps in relation to the parliamentary elections. Everyone in Junts has placed him as a candidate of the post-convergent formation for the presidency of the Generalitat on May 12, but he has not yet officially confirmed what his intentions are.

His initial forecast was to be a candidate in the European elections in June and later to meditate on what to do with the candidacy of the Catalan women, but the electoral advance has precipitated events and modified his plans.

Although the former president has not yet revealed what he will do, his lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, assured RAC1 yesterday that he is ready to return to Catalonia for the investiture debate even if there is a risk of being arrested. "When Puigdemont makes a decision, he will take it to the end and that means it will be planted where it has to be planted", assured the penalty judge, who also emphasized that with the publication of the Amnesty law in the Official Gazette State at the end of May or beginning of June "a different legal framework" will be opened to the current one.

"He may be arrested, but he will not be prevented from being president of the Generalitat if he wants to be", pointed out Boye, who believes that there should be no problems if the law approved by the Congress of Deputies on Thursday 'interpret correctly'.

"The fear that he will win and go to the investiture is justified", remarked, in this sense, the lawyer, who attributes this fear to both President Pere Aragonès and the President of the Central Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Parliament and European elections overlap in the calendar. On paper, Puigdemont could lead JxCat in both appointments, but then he would have to choose which parliament he is a member of, since there is incompatibility to have a seat in both.

From his party it has been pointed out that being the leader in both matters would be "strange". "A decision must be made, and when you go all in on something, you go all out", said the general secretary, Jordi Turull. In addition, there are those who assure that he would now be inclined not to be a candidate in the European elections and to present himself only in the Catalan elections. However, it should be borne in mind that being an MEP confers legal immunity and this is not a minor detail. If he stands in the Eurochamber elections, he must decide at the beginning of May at the latest.

Boye also spoke about this yesterday. The lawyer admitted that there is a possibility that the former president will be arrested if he returns and that there is a new arrest warrant for the cause of Democratic Tsunami, but he stressed that Puigdemont "will bear the consequences of his decisions". However, he clarified that it would be presented "with a different scenario and an Amnesty law that provides for these cases". "I'm calm", he added.

Considering the scenario, from JxCat they accuse the socialists and the republicans of advancing the elections to displace the former president, who - according to his collaborators - had planned to return in the fall if the application of the amnesty was done without problems.
