Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner separate after the popular actor's still wife filed for divorce after 18 years of marriage.
As reported by the TMZ portal, Christine began the petition last Monday before the courts, although it is still unknown what type of causes could have caused the dissolution of the marriage. In the documents presented, the actor's still wife cited the usual "irreconcilable differences."
In a statement that the actor's representative sent to People magazine, he confirmed the news, explaining that all this was caused by "extraneous circumstances" that had caused the actor to have to agree to the request of his still wife. However, they ask for the utmost respect for Christine and the couple's three children -Cayden (15), Hayes (14) and the youngest, Grace (12)-. Costner also has four other children from previous relationships: Annie (39), Lily (36), Joe (35) -fruit of his marriage to Cindy Silva- and Liam Costner (26), whose mother is Bridget Rooney, with which the actor had a brief relationship in the late 90s.
The couple began their relationship in 1998, and from the beginning, Costner revealed that his wife had always been very clear with him about his priorities in life. Baumgartner made it clear to the actor that he wanted children, and if he wanted to have a relationship with her, that was what would happen. The couple maintained a six-year courtship, before she gave him an ultimatum and the actor decided to take the final step and get married, which happened in 2004.
Their relationship has been at least idyllic for the last two decades, with their three children and very focused on their family life. The reasons that could have precipitated their divorce, for now, only they know; but just a few weeks ago they both posed at different events and there was nothing to suspect that things were going wrong between them.
For the moment, Baumgaurtner has not requested any type of financial compensation for her -there is a prenuptial agreement-, and both agree to share custody of their three children, so it seems that this separation will be completely friendly.
This will be the second divorce for Costner, following his marriage to Cindy Silva, which ended in 1994.
