Cristina Gutiérrez from Burgos has made history by becoming the first Spaniard to win the Dakar in the Challenger category. A title that she achieved unexpectedly, after a breakdown by the American Mitchell Guthrie (Taurus), leader at the beginning of the general classification until this Friday, allowed the pilot to snatch first place in the classification.
Upon arrival in Spain, there have been no shortage of welcomes, recognition events and interviews to celebrate the milestone. And he couldn't miss his visit to David Broncano's The Resistance, who five years ago announced in an almost premonitory way that he would win the Dakar.
During his visit to late night, Gutiérrez recalled his time in the competition. And he has also taken the opportunity to tell some curiosities about the Dakar, such as the alternatives they give drivers to urinate in the stages, which usually last between six and seven hours.
As he explained, the pilots use a type of cone to urinate, an alternative to not having to take down their overalls. "It is also very useful for festivals," adds the Spaniard. And Broncano has not hesitated to joke about the matter: "You could try to make shapes or write 'I love Burgos'."
Men use another piece to urinate. Theirs is funnel-shaped and is sold in various sizes, which adjust to the needs of pilots. That piece is connected to a bag where all the liquid is collected during the stage.
Lastly, although somewhat more cumbersome, participants in the male category can use a type of panty, which includes the funnel and panty to store the ornament.
