Vertix will invest 12 million in expanding the Dexeus hospital

The Vertix group will invest around 12 million euros in expanding the Dexeus University Hospital in Barcelona, to which it will add an additional 3,500 m2 with the construction of a property on an adjacent plot, which it acquired from Endesa. “It took us several years to get the building permit,” lamented the president of the real estate company, Felip Massot.

The purchase of the building is part of the growth strategy of the Vertix property division, which already has more than 100,000 m2 for rent, of which half correspond to the healthcare complex, rented to the Quironsalud group. Vertix also has commercial premises and a hotel group that already has four establishments, in Barcelona, Gavà, Sitges and Lisbon, where it has just acquired the Miraparque hotel for its rehabilitation, in a project in which it will invest 30 million euros.

Vertix manages its hotels directly, through the Maslan company, created with the AC group of businessman Antonio Catalán. The group now has 240 rooms, to which it will add another 70 with the expansion of the Sabàtic hotel in Sitges and another 100 in Lisbon. “Our goal is to add two or three more hotels in the next four or five years,” said the businessman.

Massot explained that Vertix has acquired from BBVA the building that housed the former headquarters of Caixa Tarragona in Plaza Imperial Tarraco, in the center of Tarragona, for 4.5 million euros and plans to make an additional investment of another 7 million in its rehabilitation. to house a hotel complex. The purchase, however, is pending for the Tarragona Provincial Council to decide whether to exercise its right of first refusal, which would allow it to keep the building for the same price to locate its offices there.

The real estate company, now run by his daughter, Elena Massot, had a turnover of 100 million euros last year, of which nearly 20 correspond to the hotel group. The staff, for its part, has reached 150 people, of which half correspond to the real estate activity.

Vertix, explained Felip Massot, remains fundamentally a development group: it delivers about 200 homes every year, the majority in Catalonia, although it also promotes in Madrid and Valencia. The firm, owned by the founding family, has land to build 1,500 homes and now has more than 300 under construction, with the largest developments in Sitges, El Prat and Madrid. “We are a medium-sized and profitable real estate company and we want to continue being that way. “We are investing about 30 million euros a year and we are growing without debt,” he noted.
