To transcend, to be devoured

A few days ago, Xavi Ayén told me:

–Watch this movie on Netflix, and then tell me.

Seriously, reader: if Xavi Ayén proposes something to you, a book, an album, a film, a sculpture, a photograph or a painting, listen to him.

Xavi Ayén never fails.

The fact is that my colleague was telling me about Nyad, a film recently released on the platform whose cast also guarantees good vibes: it is led by Annette Bening and Jodie Foster.

Reader, think of a failed project from one of them.

(...)

Ríndase ya.

You won't find it.

(...)

Nyad's story is true.

Nyad is Diana Nyad, an ultra-distance swimmer who later became a sports journalist and who now, at 63, feels the emptiness of her existence: she is still in shape and her mind prevents her from taking a break.

Diana Nyad guesses and conceives ideas and wonders what she can still do, at her age, to transcend.

Each one transcends in their own way.

There are those who help others. They take care of parents, children or the garden. They either cling to power or money. There are those of us who look for the Pulitzer for every sentence. There are those that transcend based on opiates.

Nyad decided to transcend a mar abierto.

It is asked:

–Is there something that no one has ever done?

Find the answer in the Atlantic.

No one has swum the 178 kilometers that open between Havana (Cuba) and Key West (Florida). The challenge is gibberish and can end badly. The waters are warm, caressing with the neighboring Caribbean, but the currents are notable and sometimes tropical storms form, and jellyfish and sharks abound.

The issue of sharks deserves a separate point because the bugs are curious and can confuse a swimmer in a neoprene with a seal.

If that happens, they'll eat it in a heartbeat.

Nyad's team uses an ultrasound system to scare away the sharks and solve the problem, but circumstances disappoint the adventurer. She fails in her first attempts, she tries again, she fails again, she does not give up, she despairs of those around her, she seeks excellence.

I'll keep the outcome to myself, I won't.
