The residents of La Castellana sue the City Council over the Bernabéu parking: there are "technical irregularities" in the project

The Association of People Injured by the Bernabéu has filed a lawsuit in court against the Madrid City Council "for technical irregularities in the construction project of two parking lots and a tunnel next to the stadium," they reported in a statement.

The lawsuit was filed on September 25 before the Contentious-Administrative Court number 30 regarding the construction projects of two parking lots: one, under the main entrance of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and another, on the west side, under Padre Damián street. , in addition to a 650-meter-long tunnel that runs between 26 Padre Damián Street and numbers 25 to 54 of Paseo de la Habana. The planned spaces in both car parks exceed 2,000, they recalled.

The claim has already been admitted for processing. The plaintiffs have explained that the City Council's project "does not justify the need for parking or a tunnel, which also does not incorporate a safety study."

To which they add that "neither the parking lots nor the tunnel are of public utility" and "they only serve very specific private interests." The affected residents even speak of "possible misuse of power."

They also argue that the parking lot and the tunnel "violate laws such as Public Sector Contracts, the urban planning regulations of the General Urban Planning Plan of Madrid or the Special Plan for the remodeling of the Bernabéu in 2017."

They also detect that "they lack valid traffic studies, as well as an Environmental Impact Assessment" given that the infrastructures "significantly increase traffic congestion and pollution on normal days, without a game, exceeding the maximum permitted in a zone of schools with more than 4,000 children".

And furthermore, "they do not evaluate traffic congestion on match days, which the projects themselves ensure will be higher than on a daily basis." He also plans to "eliminate 92 trees that are several decades old."

The association additionally presented a request for precautionary measures to stop the award and construction process, which is currently being studied by the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid (TSJM).
