The PP advances in its offensive and requests that Congress investigate the involvement of the PSOE in the plot

The PP had already announced that it would dose the initiatives on the involvement of a former socialist deputy, Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo, in the corruption scheme known as the Mediator Case, and it is complying with it. If on Tuesday he requested the appearances of the First Vice President and the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, this Wednesday he announced that today he will register the request for an investigation commission not only on the participation of the former PSOE deputy, but to what extent the involvement of other deputies and even a senator arrives, who participated in lunches and dinners with those involved.

The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, met this morning at the PP headquarters, on Calle Génova, the addresses of the groups in Congress, the Senate and the European Parliament, to coordinate this offensive that the popular are willing to carry out, because they are not willing to let go of the possibility of bringing the colors to the PSOE, after the actions against the PP and its financing, in a general way, with an investigation in Congress.

From that meeting came the decision, which the PP will register today, to request the creation of a commission of investigation of the Tito Berni case, which is how the PP likes to call the Mediator case, since it is the name given to the deputy socialist when he allegedly organized parties with prostitutes in which drugs were consumed. A commission that Ciudadanos had requested, but that it did not execute as it did not have enough deputies to carry out the initiative. The PP presents it and hopes that not only Ciudadanos, but even the parties that support the Government, from United We Can, to ERC, will support the initiative.

Yesterday, the spokespersons for ERC and Compromís assured that they would support any initiative that was presented to clarify what happened and if, as denounced in a judicial investigation, Congress was used by a scheme to collect commissions to which the then Canarian socialist deputy. United We Can advanced that it will not support the creation of an investigation commission if it came from the PP, and the PNV will also oppose it, because it considers that it is the courts that have to clarify what happened.

That is why Cuca Gamarra appeals to the partners of the Government, because it is a case of corruption, and therefore considers that "they cannot look the other way", especially considering that they made Pedro Sánchez president hoisting the flag of the fight against corruption, and it is a question, he said, "of clarifying what has happened and how Congress has been used", by hosting some meetings with those involved in the collection of commission in the Socialist Group's offices; It is also about knowing which deputies may have been involved "to safeguard the good repute of the rest of the deputies", and that they assume political responsibilities.

The general secretary of the PP and spokesperson in Congress, Cuca Gamarra, stressed the need to create the investigation commission, given the attitude of the spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Patxi López, who, according to what he said on Tuesday, has spoken with deputies who have been at those meetings, or at lunches and dinners, and yet he does not provide the information he is aware of, forcing Parliament to investigate him. Gamarra considers that "this scandal fully affects the PSOE's credibility", and However, he believes that what the Socialists are trying to do is "hide what happened to protect themselves, and especially Pedro Sánchez", but the PP is not willing to silence what happened and guarantees that it will shed light on a matter "that embarrasses Spanish society".

According to the popular spokesperson, based on the information given by Patxi López himself, it seems that "the PSOE knew what was happening" and what it is trying to do is "minimize the damage". Gamarra is based on the dismissals that took place in the Government of the Canary Islands from 2020 to the beginning of 2023, of people who have been implicated in the plot, and if these dismissals occurred in the Government of the Canary Islands, of the PSOE, "it is difficult to believe that the PSOE did not know that the leader was a deputy". For the popular leader "we expected explanations and we saw the opposite", hence the PP has decided to formally request the creation of a commission of investigation, since "dependencies of Congress, specifically, of the Socialist Group, have been used" to the allegedly illegal businesses of those involved in the commission collection plot".
