The Mossos detain a prisoner on the run since 2021 who was serving a sentence for a double murder

Agents of the Active Fugitive Investigation Group of the General Criminal Investigation Police Station (CGIC) of Mossos d'Esquadra arrested on October 26 in Barcelona a 56-year-old prisoner who, in June 2021, while on a work trip, did not He returned to the penitentiary center where he was being held.

The man was serving a 25-year prison sentence, imposed by section 7 of the Provincial Court of Barcelona, for a double murder that occurred in 2002.

On December 9, 2002, the detainee, along with other people, robbed an armored van carrying €214,000 from the proceeds from the AMC cinemas at the Parco Vallès entertainment complex in Terrassa. The robbers used firearms during the assault and shot dead two of the van's security guards. Three days later, most of the people involved in the events were arrested.

Initially, the person under investigation was sentenced to a 4-year prison sentence as a necessary collaborator in the robbery, although the Supreme Court finally sentenced him to 25 years in prison as a co-author of the two murders.

The detainee took advantage of a work trip during the month of June 2021 to flee. Immediately after his non-reentry, the investigator adopted a series of self-protection measures to make it difficult to locate him. He cut family ties, and often changed his address, as well as his physical appearance. From the beginning, for the Active Fugitive Investigation Group of the CGIC, it was a priority to locate him and re-entry him into the penitentiary center to finish serving his sentence.

Last October, a person was arrested in connection with an incident with a firearm. Along with the detainee, two people were identified, one of whom could be the prisoner who was being searched and captured.

From that moment on, the researchers made checks and managed to locate it in the upper area of Horta. Once all the evidence proving the identity of the person under investigation was obtained, on October 26 they located him when he was walking in the Vall d'Hebron area of Barcelona and arrested him.

After being brought to justice, the detainee was immediately admitted to the Brians 1 penitentiary center. The prisoner had two arrest warrants in force, one for non-reentry to the penitentiary center, and another for a crime of abuse in the home.
