The Civil Guard deploys more than 200 troops in an anti-drug macro operation in Mallorca

More than 200 Civil Guard agents have been participating since the early hours of this Wednesday in a macro-operation against drug trafficking that is taking place in several municipalities on the island, including the Balearic capital. The searches began at dawn in homes in Palma and Marratxí, but throughout the morning they spread to other neighboring towns. Several agents have traveled from the peninsula to support their colleagues on the island.

The Civil Guard has not given details of the operation since it is under summary secrecy, but has announced that the searches will be expanded throughout the day and numerous arrests are expected that to date have not materialized, although some sources speak of more than 30 detainees during the morning.

Groups from the Judicial Police, members of the Command Citizen Security Unit and agents from the Rapid Action Groups participate in the searches. They have had dogs trained in the search for drugs, which accompany the agents in their investigations. It is expected that the registrations will continue even for a good part of this Wednesday

The agents have entered fifty homes where it is suspected that people related to a very active criminal organization that is dedicated to drug trafficking in different parts of the island live. Vehicles located in the vicinity of these homes have also been searched.

Some of the searches have been carried out in Son Banya, in Palma, one of the distribution centers for drug trafficking throughout the island. The agents have also entered homes in other neighborhoods of Palma, such as Molinar and Son Gotleu, and other apartments in the Majorcan towns of Algaida and Marratxí.

The Civil Guard had been chasing this criminal gang for months, which is suspected of being one of the main suppliers of narcotics in the Balearic Islands. The number of detainees has not yet been reported, but so far different quantities of various drugs have been seized.
