Six minors arrested for beating a colleague from the Amorebieta shelter

Six minor inmates from the Amorebieta shelter (Bizkaia) were arrested this Tuesday as perpetrators of beating another teenager from that center who had to be evacuated to a hospital. The attacked young man is in serious condition.

The six detainees were transferred to the Ertzaintza offices and, after police proceedings and the communication of the facts to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, the adolescents were once again under the guardianship of the Provincial Council.

As reported by the Basque Department of Security, the attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon in this center for unaccompanied minors, where those now accused of a crime of injuries beat another young man, who had to be transferred by ambulance to a hospital to be treated for the injuries they had caused.

The Amorebieta center for unaccompanied minors, opened in 2006, has been in the news on several occasions due to the problems that have occurred inside. In December 2017, several minors started a fire that destroyed part of the hamlet, which had to close for four months. Before this fire there had been other less serious attacks against the building.

The center was also burned in 2006, shortly after it was opened as a center for minors, and in 2021 a fire, of lesser intensity, occurred in one of the rooms; As a result of the fire, two workers had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The newspaper El Correo published a few weeks ago that 88 minors left the center voluntarily, after internal rules were tightened and showing documents proving their legal age.
