Salou is studying taking the tram project to court for including catenaries in the urban fabric

The Salou City Council is considering taking the Camp de Tarragona tram project to court. The studies carried out by the Department of Territory indicate that in some points of the section between Cambrils and Vila-seca it will be necessary to install catenary to power the trains so that they can travel the fifteen kilometers of the route.

Some of these overhead lines would affect part of the urban fabric of Salou, an aspect that the city's mayor, Pere Granados, did not like. In fact, Granados always defended that there be no overhead power line.

The mayor has indicated that "if the tram is not absolutely integrated into the urban area and must be a new barrier within the municipality" they will consider taking action, "including judicial" to oppose it.

However, Territori technicians are studying with the city councils at which points the catenary would end up being placed, always with the priority being in interurban areas, according to Department sources.

The construction project is currently being completed, which is very advanced and is expected to be completed at the end of the first quarter of 2024. Once completed, the next step will be to tender the works. A procedure that we want to complete before the summer so that work can begin at the end of the year. The executive's goal is for the tram to enter service at the end of 2026.

The disputes between the Salou City Council and the Government are not new. The most obvious point of conflict is the position regarding the Hard Rock project, which the municipality of Costa Daurada firmly defends and accuses the Generalitat of lack of commitment to the initiative.
