The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the Local Police of La Vila Joiosa, has arrested a 38-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of eleven crimes of damage caused by fire and another for fire with risk to people's lives. The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court, which has ordered his entry into prison without bail.
On January 13, the Civil Guard of La Vila was aware of four fires in different parts of the town between 9:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., with the emergency services and firefighters of the Provincial Council having to intervene to put out the fire. calls.
One of the fires occurred on the terrace of a local bar, affecting adjacent homes. Due to its large dimensions, it endangered the lives of the residents. Given the suspicions of the intentionality of these fires, the agents of the Villajoyosa Investigation Area began the onfire operation to clarify the facts.
In the first phase, the researchers carried out different procedures to obtain data that could lead to finding out the identity of the author, locating and studying the images captured by the security cameras installed on public roads and different establishments, obtaining the author identification.
Thanks to the close collaboration of the Civil Guard with the La Vila City Council, who has presented himself as a private prosecution, a series of joint devices were established with the Local Police, resulting in the identification of the person related to the analyzed images.
Finally, on February 5, after identifying the alleged perpetrator and analyzing all the evidence obtained, he was arrested. In addition, a search of the detainee's home was carried out, in which a large amount of incriminating evidence was located, highlighting among them a series of combustion accelerators that were hidden. Investigators were also able to find out that the detainee was related to the fires set in vehicles at the beginning of April 2023.
