According to these data, the number of rail transport passengers in the first three months of 2022 implies 1.1% less compared to the 122 million passengers registered in the previous quarter, the last of 2021.

In relation to the first quarter of 2020 (131.5 million travellers), a period that was already conditioned by the start of the covid-19 pandemic in March of that year, the data for the period January-March 2022 represents an 8 .3% less.

Likewise, when comparing the data with the 161.45 million passengers registered by the railway sector in the first quarter of 2019, the figure for this beginning of 2022 is 25.32% lower.

On the other hand, the data published by the INE show that the rail sector transported 5.75 million tons of goods in the first quarter of this year, 1.8% more than the 5.65 million the previous year. Compared to the 5.5 million tons of goods transported in the last quarter of 2021, the figure for this start of 2022 is 3.63% higher.

When comparing it with the data prior to the pandemic, it is observed that the 5.75 million tons of January-March this year represent 2.67% more than the 5.6 million tons of merchandise for the same period of 2020, and 14% less compared to the 6.69 million tons of the first quarter of 2019.
