Ourensana Democracy achieves a seat that will not be decisive

The wet dream of Democracia Ourensana (DO) in these elections was to enter the Galician Parliament and be the party that decided, with the permission of Sumar and Vox, the color of the new government of the Xunta, something like the key that the Canary Coalition has in the Congress of Deputies, capable of deciding many votes. But the formation of the mayor of Ourense, Gonzalo Pérez Jácome, has remained halfway.

The candidacy of Armando Ojea, deputy mayor of the capital and co-founder of DO, has made history by achieving a seat in a parliament monopolized by PP, PSdeG and BNG, thanks to the 15,000 votes received in the province, but the seat will lack the dreamed weight as a consequence of the absolute majority of the PP.

Democracia Ourensana dreamed of success when the CIS survey predicted a seat for them. Since then, they have been a great mystery that they themselves have tried to clear up.

Who would they have supported? “The one who offers the most to Ourense, the one who gives the most, could have our support,” they noted in the campaign. But the precedents tip the balance towards the PP. The Popular Party facilitated Jácome's re-election as mayor and, in return, he paved the way for the PP to once again preside over the Ourense Provincial Council.

“We aspired to be a key and we hired a catering service thinking about it, now let's see who pays for it…” Jácome joked last night.
