Matthew Perry's ex-fiancée: "It was complicated and caused pain like I never imagined"

The death of Matthew Perry, who gave life to the charismatic Chandler Bing in the legendary Friends, has left millions of viewers around the world orphaned. Last Sunday the news of the death of the 54-year-old interpreter was known, who was found dead by his assistant in the jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles.

Throughout his life, the actor faced tough battles against addictions. Much of this struggle was experienced by Molly Hurwitz, the literary agent to whom the interpreter became engaged in November 2020 after three years of relationship. The couple broke up their relationship a year later, but Hurwitz wanted to say goodbye to the man with whom she was going to walk down the aisle with a letter that left no one indifferent.

"He would have loved for the world to talk about how talented he was. And he really was very talented," Hurwitz begins in the Instagram post she dedicates to her former fiancé, accompanied by an image in which the actor can be seen from behind looking at to the horizon.

"As the Friends reunion approached, we rewatched the show together. 'Damn! It was so good! Did you see what I did there?' We would rewind and study the scenes," she recalls. The two seemed to be deeply united by a common passion: humor. "Our respect and appreciation for humor is something that connected us. Being with him as I rediscovered his brilliance was magical," she says.

The actor has always maintained that for years he was unable to watch the series. In 2022, he acknowledged that certain episodes meant that he was even able to identify what type of substances he was taking at that time. "I still have to fight this thing," he admitted, acknowledging that he had been through rehab centers 15 times.

Precisely in this regard his ex-partner also emphasizes in his farewell, because he wants everyone to know that, despite the deep love they both had for each other, it was not easy.

"Obviously, I also knew this man in a very different way. While I loved him more deeply than I could understand, he was complicated and caused pain like I had never felt before," she reveals. Still, he says that "no one in my adult life has had a deeper impact on me," so he has "enormous gratitude" for everything he learned from their relationship.

Hurwitz goes on to name Alcoholics Anonymous at the end of his letter, stating that they are "an invaluable resource for those who love someone fighting this destructive disease."

"Matty, I'm relieved that you're at peace," the writer concludes.

The couple began their relationship in 2018 and, in November 2020, they shared that they were going to walk down the aisle. At that time, the actor was overjoyed to marry Hurwitz, whom he claimed was "the most wonderful woman on the planet." It was the first time that the interpreter was committed and that she was going to get married.

However, it seems that his problems with substances ended up wearing down the relationship. The couple broke up shortly before the broadcast of the episode of the reunion of the protagonists of Friends, 17 years after the series ended. Perry's slurred appearance and speech sparked speculation about a possible relapse into her addictions.
