Lluís Llach will stand in the ANC leadership elections

The singer and independence activist Lluís Llach confirmed this Friday that he will present his candidacy for the elections for the leadership of the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) to be one of the national secretaries.

"Wanting to work and for many people to meet to continue the fight of these times to come. I invite you to be there and strengthen a tool that is so necessary to us. More than ever!" he wrote in his account on the social network

This Monday, March 25, the ANC opened the process to present candidates for its new national secretariat, the body that will elect the entity's leadership. The deadline for the entity to publish its list of candidates for the national secretariat ends on April 29. The vote will be held from May 14 to 18, and members can do so electronically, although voting can also be done in person at some locations.

Llach had already shown his interest in being part of the new national secretariat of the independence entity, in an interview in the newspaper El Punt Avui, on March 6. The singer-songwriter said that he does not see himself as president of the entity at 76 years old, but that if he entered the management he would see. At the same time, he expressed his doubts about whether it is positive for the ANC to be presidential.

"When I am in the national secretariat, if people agree to appoint me, I will decide what I do, but it is evident that the way the presidency works today I am not the ideal person. Now, if there is a possibility of president or girl of clean the stairs, yes," he said in the interview. "I would like to help energize the Assembly from the place where I can do so. I don't know if I would be willing to preside over it, because I am 76 years old and I know the immense sacrifice it represents," she said.

Llach showed his willingness to be part of the ANC secretariat after taking a stand against the initiative, promoted by the president of the entity, Dolors Feliu, to present a civic list in the next elections to the Parliament of Catalonia, an option that was defeated in a vote among the partners. Feliu's leadership, already compromised due to the numerous resignations that have occurred during his tenure, was further weakened by this move.

Llach was a deputy for Junts pel Sí in the legislature of the 1-O referendum, and in December he left the Consell of the Republic (CdRep), in disagreement with the participation of former president Carles Puigdemont, leader of this independence organization, in the negotiations of investiture of Pedro Sánchez as president of the Government.
