León Bike Day hopes to bring together more than 5,000 cyclists in the city

The city of León will host on September 17 the celebration of the XXVII edition of Bike Day on the occasion of the commemoration of the European Mobility Week and Car Free Day, an event that hopes to bring together more than 5,000 people to "demanding a more accessible and less polluting city".

The Councilor for Sports, Vicente Canuria, presented this morning the XXVII edition of Bike Day, an event organized by the León City Council and El Corte Inglés, the Leonese City Council reported in a statement sent to Europa Press.

This activity is 30 years old and has only ceased to be held during the covid-19 pandemic to comply with the restrictions to avoid spreading the disease.

The Councilor for Sports explained that thirty years later, León has a network of bike lanes, a public bicycle loan service, a network of safe parking spaces for bicycles and ordinances that "make it easier for many Leonese to have incorporated the bicycle as his means of transportation every day.

Within this alliance for sustainable mobility, this year ALSA and Nextbike-Tier, which manage the bicycle loan service in León, and Regio Auto León, dealer of Cupra electric cars, have joined the Bike Day.

The Community Manager at El Corte Inglés, Juan Carlos Vázquez, highlighted the "family, festive and non-competitive nature" of Bike Day, which allows children under 3 and grandparents over 80 to participate together in a "quiet tour" through the streets of León and the Parque de la Candamia

Although the requirement of the route, which lasts just two hours and with stops along the way, is suitable for all audiences, the test will have a bus and a broom truck to pick up any participant who decides to leave the bike and join directly to the the final party in front of the Cathedral.

At the end of the tour, a raffle will be held in which bicycles, electric skates and other gifts will be distributed. There will also be prizes for the most original bicycle and the best costume and for the funniest group, who will get El Corte Inglés gift cards.

To participate in Bike Day, the registration forms must be filled out and delivered by September 16 and deposited in the ballot boxes located on the sixth floor of El Corte Inglés in León.

All participants will receive a number to participate in the bicycle raffle that at the end of the march will take place in front of the Cathedral, in Plaza de Regla.
