freedom and tolerance

The presentation of the book Nobody is born in a wrong body , by the psychologists José Errasti and Marino Pérez Álvarez, last Monday at the Casa del Llibre in Barcelona, ended hastily before the concentration of a hundred people who wanted to boycott the act. Organizers said they had received threats that the bookstore would be burned down.

The protesters, called by Crida LGTBI and Sororitrans, accused the authors and their work of being transphobic. During the concentration there were moments of tension with the Mossos, with several charges that caused injuries among the activists.

Errasti and Pérez Álvarez deny that their book violates the rights of trans people, admit that their thesis may be wrong, and demand the university right to debate ideas. Expressing yourself freely should not be subject to boycott threats and the police should not be necessary to guarantee a public event. Every claim is legitimate and must be respected, but always with tolerance.
