The Ceuta Fire Fighting and Rescue Service (SEIS) extinguished during the early hours of this Saturday after almost 12 hours of work with all the available troops mobilized the fire declared in a commercial warehouse located on the mezzanine floor of a building located in the middle of Autonomous city center.

Dozens of the more than 100 residents at number 36 Calle Real have had to be taken from their homes with scale trucks after early this Friday afternoon they were urged to remain in their homes with the windows closed while trying to put out the flames declared in an electrical appliance store for unknown reasons, which are being investigated by the Scientific Police unit of the Ceuta Superior Headquarters.

A total of 25 people, including four firefighters, have been treated by the 061 and Red Cross emergency health units activated by smoke inhalation, headaches, conjunctivitis and tachycardia, although it has not been necessary to transfer any of them to the University Hospital. , which activated its Emergency Catastrophe Area in case its authorization was necessary.

The fire started early this Friday afternoon, when a column of smoke was detected coming from the mezzanine of the emblematic 'Edificio de Colores' in the center of Ceuta, which houses the warehouse of a mattress and electrical appliance store.

The SEIS urged in the first instance the neighbors who were at home to remain in their homes with the windows closed, but the impossibility of reaching the source of the flames, something that was not achieved until 9:30 p.m., when it was declared " controlled" the fire, forced dozens of residents and their pets to evacuate in mid-afternoon with scale trucks.

The building has been sealed and at least eleven families have accepted the offer of the Ceuta Government Social Services Department to spend the night at the Puerta de África hotel managed by a municipal company. Most have been inclined to stay with relatives until they can return to their homes.
