Compromís proposes addressing the consequences of premature access to smartphones

Compromís deputy and Health spokesperson Carles Esteve has registered a proposal to create a commission in Les Corts Valencianes to study "the consequences of premature access" in the use of smartphones. It would also address regulation in schools and institutes or the "most appropriate" age for minors to start using smartphones.

In this context, from Compromís, in a statement, they have pointed out that in recent months initiatives from mothers and fathers have appeared that show their "concern" about this issue.

"Many families face enormous difficulty because, on the one hand, it seems that 12 years of age has become established as the age at which it is time to have a cell phone, but at the same time there are many studies that clearly point out some risks," Esteve detailed. .

In other autonomies such as Castilla la Mancha, Galicia or Madrid, the use of these devices is prohibited in schools and institutes and "more and more" European states have their own regulations in this regard, the coalition has pointed out.

"What we propose from Compromís is to open the debate without prejudice, listen to what the specialists say but also listen to the families and the adolescents themselves, and we believe that a study commission to Les Corts is the ideal framework for this work," he said. the parliamentarian concluded.
