Chef José Andrés accuses Israel of waging a "war against humanity itself"

Spanish chef José Andrés affirmed that Israel is waging a "war against humanity itself" and considered "unforgivable" the attack by Israeli forces that ended the lives of seven aid workers from his NGO, World Central Kitchen (WCK) on April 1. ).

"This is no longer about the seven men and women of WCK who perished in that unfortunate event. This has been happening for too long. It has been six months attacking anything that seems to move," said José Andrés in an interview broadcast this Sunday on ABC's This Week.

"This doesn't look like a war on terror. This no longer looks like a war to defend Israel. Really, at this point, it looks like it's a war against humanity itself," he added.

For this reason, he argued, it is necessary that there be a "deeper" investigation to determine why the WCK convoy was attacked, despite the fact that the vehicles were marked with the organization's logo and had informed the Armed Forces. Israelis every move.

"Whoever perpetrated the attack cannot investigate himself," José Andrés stressed.

The non-governmental organization this week asked the governments of the United States, Australia, Canada, Poland and the United Kingdom, countries of origin of the deceased aid workers, to carry out an independent investigation.

In the first conclusions of their investigation, published on Friday, the Israeli Armed Forces stated that the attack was the result of a chain of "serious errors" and they claim that they fired in the mistaken belief that there were two "gunmen" inside the vehicles and that they were of Hamas terrorists.

Asked about this, José Andrés first said that he wanted to thank the Armed Forces for the quick investigation, but later questioned its conclusions.

"Every time something happens, we can't just throw Hamas into the equation," he said.

The Biden Government has ruled out carrying out its own investigation of the event and has limited itself to saying that it trusts that the Israeli Executive will carry out an "exhaustive, complete and transparent" investigation.
