Having recently finished the course in the Santander League, it is not only time to put the notes, but also to distribute the television income among the 20 participating clubs in the First Division.
There is a Royal Decree on the centralized sale of audiovisual rights that establishes that a part of the income must be distributed according to the final position of the teams in the championship: the higher up you are, the more you enter.
The law dictates percentages based on the final position. The first, for example, takes 17% of that money. A number that is gradually decreasing. The latter ends with 0.25%.
This distribution affects only a part of the total income, since one half, for example, is divided equally between the clubs. Taking into account last season, in which the League earned 1,427 million euros on television, the fixed amount for each club is 35.6 million euros.
But when it comes to percentage per position, income varies wildly. Barça, brand new league champion, will enter almost 100 million: 35.6 fixed plus 60.65 variables for finishing first. Espanyol, for example, penultimate ranked, will enter about 37.4 million between the fixed and the variable (1.78).
