Barcelona breathes running. She has always done it. And, after very hard years during the Covid-19 pandemic, the evolution of registrations for the 2024 editions of the Zurich Marató Barcelona and the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks compared to the comparison with the pace of the previous year, are a clear sign of recovery in the influx of runners who want to participate in the two big races in the Catalan capital.
With 18 weeks to go until the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks 2024, 7,000 registrations have already been reached, registering an increase in numbers sold of 88% compared to the same period in 2022, when there were 3,717. For its part, the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 already has 6,000 bibs sold 22 weeks before the event, 72% more than on this same date last year, when it had 3,486.
Likewise, there are more figures that invite positivism: in eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks, the female percentage of registered participants has risen one point, to 36% (35% this 2023), and up to six points, to 39%, that of international participants with registration so far, when the overall percentage last edition was 33%, while the Zurich Marató Barcelona maintains 25% of registered women and has grown 10% in national participation, putting the bibs sold in equal parts in abroad than in the national territory.
The other differential reason for the growth in registrations on these dates in the Barcelona half and marathon has been the change of circuit for 2024 of the Zurich Marató Barcelona. A change of route motivated mainly by the works on Avenida Maria Cristina (old start and finish of this race) which has allowed the design of a new flatter, more central route with fewer curves and which is receiving very good acceptance.
In fact, the organization considers that the change of circuit has been a key factor in the increase in registrations at this time. There are only 1,000 more registrations left to reach the first price change in the Zurich Marató Barcelona 2024 (when reaching 7,000), while 3,000 are missing to reach the only price change for the next eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks (when reaching 10,000).
