Luka Modric, renewed for a season

Real Madrid announced this morning the last of its planned renewals, that of Luka Modric, who at 37 (he turns 38 on September 9) extended his contract for one more season. Last week the white club renewed Toni Kroos, Nacho Fernández and Dani Ceballos. And days before he signed Fran García, Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham and Joselu.

In the casualties chapter, the whites have had that of Karim Benzema who, contrary to Madrid's expectations, did not want to renew and went to Arabia. The club did assume that Marco Asensio was not going to want to continue (he is about to sign for PSG). Mariano Diaz and Eden Hazard have also left Madrid.

The question remains with the future of three players who still have a valid contract: Lucas Vázquez, Odriozola and Vallejo. The Basque is the closest to leaving. In the chapter of transfers, Madrid probes a nine that accompanies Joselu. Kane was initially chosen as a replacement for Benzema, but his high price (130 million) makes signing him seem very complicated.

Luka Modric arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 at the express request of Mourinho. In his eleven seasons defending Madrid, he has played 488 games and won 23 titles: five Champions League, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, three Leagues, two Copas del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.

During his career as a Real Madrid player, Modric has also won the highest individual awards, such as the 2018 Ballon d'Or, The Best FIFA Player Award 2018, the 2017/18 UEFA Player of the Year Award, the Ballon d'Or of the 2017 Club World Cup, and this season he has been part of the FIFA/FIFPro World XI for the sixth time in his career. He was also the Golden Ball of the World Cup in Russia and bronze in Qatar. Few players have had Madrid so profitable in recent times.
