The unexpected meteorological change that worries Aemet on the eve of Christmas

The most beloved time of the year, Christmas, could be about to be marred by adverse weather conditions, just as people begin their holidays and head towards long-awaited family gatherings. In this sense, the reports from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) are not very encouraging and predict a sudden change in the weather.

The Aemet forecast paints a gloomy picture for the coming days, with special attention to the Canary Islands. According to its report, "locally heavy rainfall is expected on the mountainous islands of the Canary Islands", along with intervals of strong wind in regions such as the lower Ebro and Ampurdán.

In the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, however, predominantly anticyclonic weather is expected with clear skies, except in the eastern Cantabrian Sea and the western Pyrenees, where light rains could occur.

Those who travel these days should be especially careful, since the Aemet has also predicted a drop in temperatures. This decline will be more pronounced in the west of Castilla y León, the middle Ebro, Catalonia and Levante. The frosts, although weak, will affect the northern plateau, east of the southern plateau and main mountain systems, being moderate in the Pyrenees.

The wind will play a crucial role in these conditions, as it is expected to increase the feeling of cold in certain areas. The Aemet details that the wind will blow from the northwest in the eastern Cantabrian, Ebro and Balearic Islands, with intervals of strong and very strong gusts in the Ampurdán and lower Ebro. In the Strait and Alborán the light wind will predominate, while in the Canary Islands it will be a this.

From Saturday the 23rd to Tuesday the 26th, days with a marked Christmas character, a prolongation of the anticyclonic and stable weather is expected in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with an increase in stability in the Canary Islands. Although weak rainfall is expected on Saturday in the eastern Cantabrian Sea and the western Pyrenees, these will subside in the afternoon. The mists and fogs will gain ground as the days go by, extending to other areas such as the southern plateau and the interior of Mallorca.

On Tuesday, an increase in cloudiness is expected in Galicia due to the approach of a front, which could bring precipitation to the west of the community. Temperatures will experience a slight drop, remaining low in areas with persistent fog. The frost will affect the two plateaus, the Iberian plateau, the interior northeast and the Pyrenees.
