The Aemet warns that May starts with rain and temperatures 10 degrees less than normal

This week, between April and May, will leave a generally cold atmosphere for the season and more rain due to the arrival in Spain of a new Atlantic storm. Precipitation will be widespread, but will be more intense and abundant in the Mediterranean area and the northeast and northwest of the peninsula, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

Temperatures will remain much cooler than normal for the time of year, the agency continues. At least until Thursday, when they will begin to recover and stability will begin to prevail, giving way to a warmer week.

"They will begin a progressive ascent, accompanied by more stable weather and limited rains to the north starting on Thursday," says Aemet spokesperson Rubén Del Campo.

For this Tuesday, the approach of the Atlantic storm will leave rain and showers in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and in parts of the eastern peninsula, but "with a tendency to decrease" as the day progresses, the spokesperson specified.

Likewise, a front associated with said storm will leave rain in Galicia that will extend to the Cantabrian communities, Castilla y León, Extremadura and Western Andalusia and with temperatures that will drop especially in the west of the peninsula, with a snow level that in the northwest It will be located around 1,100 meters.

On Wednesday, a holiday, the low pressures will continue with almost generalized rains and storms, less likely in the Balearic Islands and on the southeast coast, and more abundant around the Strait, central Andalusia, the Cantabrian Sea, northern Galicia and northeastern Catalonia.

That day it will snow from only about 900 meters in the northwest and about 1,000 to 1,500 meters in the rest of the northern half with accumulations of more than 5 centimeters in the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees.

The cold environment will also reach the Mediterranean coast, the Balearic Islands and the western peninsula. Daytime temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees below normal for the time of year and will only exceed 25 degrees in isolated points of the Mediterranean, while in northern and western cities they will remain below 15 degrees.

The instability will begin to subside on Thursday, although for that day some stormy showers are expected in large areas of the northern half, which will be snow from only about 800 meters in the northwest. Starting Friday, anticyclonic weather will prevail with temperatures clearly rising, the agency anticipates.
