The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has launched a heat wave alert in the northeast quadrant and basins of the large rivers of the Peninsula that will last until next Thursday due to a progressive rise in temperatures in a large part of the Peninsula and Balearic Islands, due to the strong insolation on a warm and stable air mass.
Precisely today Monday and tomorrow Tuesday will be the peak days of this heat wave, since according to Aemet it is likely that 40ºC will be reached or exceeded in large areas of the southwestern and northeastern quadrants of the peninsula, and variations from 36ºC to 38ºC in the interior peninsular, Mallorca and the south of Galicia, without ruling out that they also extend to points in the southeast.
Despite the widespread heat wave, daytime temperatures will rise on the Atlantic and Cantabrian slopes, although they will drop in the southeastern third of the peninsula.
Another of the dangers of this heat wave is that the minimum temperatures will also be very high during the episode, with tropical nights, above 20ºC, and even above 23ºC to 25ºC, in parts of the southern half, zone center and valley of the Ebro.
On the other hand, the Aemet foresees some light rain at the beginning of the day in the north of Galicia, as well as evolving cloudiness in areas of the interior of the peninsula in the afternoon, and some showers or storms in the Pyrenees, while in the rest of the country the sky will be clear.
The clouds will accompany the warm skies in the Mediterranean area and cloudy intervals are expected in the Cantabrian Sea, which can also be seen in the Canary Islands, where showers or storms are possible on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
In addition, the Aemet also expects in its forecast for this Monday morning fog scattered in the interior of Galicia and Cantabria, and haze in the Canary Islands.
