The arrival of a mass of dry and warm African air will lead to an episode of "exceptionally high" temperatures, typical of the end of June throughout Spain, as explained by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in a publication by X, formerly Twitter.

In the Canary Islands, it will begin this Wednesday with values close to 30 degrees. In the peninsula and in the Balearic Islands, this episode of summer heat will start from Thursday.

The maximum peak will be reached over the weekend with temperatures between 5 and 12 degrees above normal for this time of year, the agency continues. The greatest anomaly will occur in the Cantabrian area and in the northeast of the peninsula.

For this Wednesday, an almost general rise in temperatures is expected, notable in the interior of the extreme northwest of the peninsula and in the Canary Islands. However, they will decrease in the Mediterranean area. The minimums will increase in the central west and southwest of the peninsula and Tenerife and will decrease in the northwest, eastern third and the Balearic Islands.

During the day on Thursday, temperatures will exceed 30 degrees in areas of the Canary Islands, without ruling out the possibility of reaching 35 degrees locally, while on the peninsula, and in the provincial capitals, Seville, Huelva, Ourense and Badajoz, they will already reach 28 degrees.

The thermometer will rise on Friday to 27-30 degrees in more than a dozen capitals: Zaragoza, Zamora, Vitoria, Valladolid, Teruel, Pontevedra, Pamplona, Ourense, Lugo, Logroño, Lleida, León, Girona, Córdoba, Bilbao and Badajoz , among other.

For the weekend, the peak of this episode of "exceptionally high" temperatures is expected. A stable situation will continue to dominate, with slightly cloudy skies or high clouds in practically the entire country and with records that will tend to increase even more in the eastern half of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands and slightly in the western half.
