The Aemet predicts when new storms loaded with rain will arrive

Spain is preparing for a major meteorological change after experiencing a drier than usual winter and autumn. This Carnival weekend, the country will feel the last effects of Storm Karlotta, and the return of seasonal weather conditions is expected, with cold, snow and wind as the protagonists.

This change in weather puts an end to what seemed like an early spring, reintroducing a bad weather scenario that could significantly influence outdoor celebrations, especially Carnival celebrations.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of the arrival of new storms that promise to bring abundant rain, beginning a period in which this phenomenon will dominate Spanish meteorology. This change is crucial, taking into account the exceptionally warm winter that has been experienced, with historically high temperatures that have left the country in a complicated situation, exceeding 20ºC in January, a month that is not usually so warm.

The drought that affects regions such as Catalonia, which has not been seen since 2008, shows the seriousness of the situation. At that time, it was necessary to import water by boat to supply the population, a measure that is currently being reconsidered. This panorama reinforces the importance of the next rains, which have been eagerly awaited for a long time.

According to Aemet, next week will begin with an increase in meteorological stability, although Monday is expected to begin with scattered rains that will subside. However, instability will return with the arrival of several storms that will bring more showers to different parts of the peninsula, especially starting Tuesday.

In addition to the rainfall, an increase in temperatures is expected, with forecasts of exceeding 20ºC in many areas towards the beginning of next week. Although the weekend will be colder, with more intense frosts, temperatures will begin to rise again from Monday, potentially reaching 24ºC in Seville on Wednesday.
