The May long weekend will be under siege from bad weather, according to Aemet

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts a week of atypical weather for the May long weekend, with a sharp drop in temperatures and precipitation in most of the peninsular territory. This atypical weather is expected to affect the plans of many during the long weekend, with slightly cloudy skies and widespread showers in much of the country, except in some areas of the southeast.

During the next week, the Atlantic fronts and low pressures are expected to affect the weather on the peninsula, giving rise to a colder and wetter environment than usual for the season. This phenomenon will be accompanied by cloudy skies and frequent rainfall, although the areas of the southeast of the peninsula will be less affected by these conditions.

On the other hand, the forecast for the Canary Islands shows overcast skies with a low probability of rain, especially at high altitudes. In the archipelago, trade winds will predominate, while in the Balearic Islands, westerly and southern winds are expected.

As for temperatures, a slight rise is expected in the east of the peninsula and in both archipelagos, although in most of the peninsula the thermometers will register a decrease, with minimum temperatures that will not exceed 10 degrees in the middle of the week. This cold will be more palpable between Wednesday and Friday.

Finally, Aemet reports that the meteorological situation will begin to stabilize towards the end of the week, with a gradual recovery of temperatures, especially in the interior of the peninsula. The frost will be limited to the Pyrenees during the weekend, marking a calmer end to the holidays.
