Five photo stops in Bilbao

I share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos this photographic route with five stops through the city of Bilbao to experience in one weekend, from the Zubizuri bridge to the Guggenheim.

The Zubizurri Bridge, the work of Calatrava, rises over the Ría del Nervión. Its minimalist design, with an inclined arch supported by cables, makes it a symbol of the urban transformation of Bilbao and very notable among the city landscape.

The image captures Bilbao's iconic tram track on the grass. A city that, due to its climate, can really enjoy this green color. In the background the sculpture of Puerta de los Honorables in memory of Ramón Rubial, prior to this large and imposing building that rises behind the sculpture.

On this occasion the photo takes us inside San Mamés, the iconic football stadium in Bilbao. Opened in 1913, it has been the home of Athletic Club for over a century. After a thorough renovation in 2013, San Mamés has become a modern and avant-garde stadium, preserving the essence and passion that have always characterized it. In Bilbao, football is lived with great passion.

Panoramic view of Bilbao from the estuary, offering a unique perspective of the city and its most emblematic architectural elements. In the foreground, the estuary is shown in all its width. Further in the background we have the Zubizurri Bridge and above the skyline, what can be seen are the Isozaki Towers, designed by Arata Isozaki, architect of the Palau Sant Jordi among others, which rise imposingly towards the sky, representing dynamism and projection of the city's future.

But without a doubt, if any building is identified with the city of Bilbao, it is none other than the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a masterpiece by architect Frank Gehry with its imposing and characteristic façade. Its titanium casing, which evokes the skin of a fish swimming in the estuary. As an anecdote, comment that throughout the museum there are no edges perpendicular to the ground, but rather they are all curved.

Finally, a shot from the plane window during the return trip, with a sea of white clouds under the wings.
