The Aemet marks the arrival of Storm Louis on the calendar with intense rains and strong winds

Spain faces a weekend of unstable weather with the arrival of Storm Louis, which since last Friday has caused a sharp drop in temperatures, torrential rains and strong gusts of wind. Thus, after enjoying pleasant weather in the last days of February, Spaniards should prepare to take out their coats and umbrellas, since the weather has turned drastically towards cold and rain.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has warned of this change, explaining that although Louis is moving north, current atmospheric conditions form a "wind corridor" that will bring more precipitation and gusts of wind to the Peninsula.

Galicia and the Cantabrian strip already experienced the heaviest accumulations of rain during the afternoon of Friday the 23rd, with more scattered showers forecast in other autonomous communities. However, the extreme risk warning remains for the Galician coast, where waves of up to 9 meters high are expected.

The meteorological situation is further complicated by the warnings of accumulation of snow and wind in the southeast of the peninsula, Melilla and the Canary Islands. The snow level is expected to be low, between 700 and 800 meters, which will significantly affect temperatures, which in cities such as Valladolid, Salamanca, Soria, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Palencia, will not exceed 10 degrees maximum. .

For Saturday, February 24, rainfall is expected to spread throughout the national territory, although with less intensity than in the north. Likewise, the snow cover and strong winds will persist, which will keep temperatures below 20 degrees throughout the country.

In this scenario, the Aemet has expanded the warnings to red level due to coastal phenomena in Galicia for Saturday, and orange for the rest of the north, which indicates that on Sunday the rains will intensify again in much of the country. Although the wind will continue to blow throughout the weekend, a slight rise in the snow level is expected.
