The Aemet launches a special warning for the arrival of the Karlotta storm: the most affected areas

After several weeks in which stable weather has predominated, the "high-impact" Atlantic storm Karlotta arrives, which, starting this Wednesday, will cross the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, giving rise to an episode of intense wind with gusts of more than 100 kilometers across. hour (km/h), sea storms and widespread rainfall, according to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The first storm of the year will "probably" last until Saturday, so the agency has activated a special warning for adverse phenomena.

The first effects of Karlotta are expected late Wednesday on the Galician coasts, with very strong gusts of wind from the southwest, as well as the first rainfall.

In the rest of the country, there will be cloudy skies in the western half of the peninsula, with precipitation during the second half of the day in Galicia. In a dispersed and less probable manner, the rains could extend to other areas of the northwest third of the peninsula.

As for temperatures, this Wednesday the maximum temperatures will increase in the Canary Islands, the Cantabrian Sea, depressions in the northeast and the Levante coasts and will decrease on the Atlantic slope.

For Thursday, Karlotta will leave rainfall in the western half of the peninsula and the western Pyrenees, although it is expected to be more intense and especially persistent in Galicia.

Regarding the wind, another of the phenomena that this highly impactful storm will bring, this day the most affected area will be the northwest quadrant of the peninsula with very strong gusts in large areas. They will be especially intense in the Cantabrian mountain range and in Galicia where speeds could exceed 100 km/h, with a strong sea storm on the Galician coasts.

They will not be left behind in other mountain systems of the Peninsula, such as the Pyrenees, the Iberian system, the Central system and the Betic systems, where very strong gusts are also expected.
