The Aemet announces that a new meteorological disturbance is approaching

A new meteorological disturbance is looming over the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands this Thursday, December 7, according to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Projections indicate that this front will bring widespread rainfall, covering most of the territory from the northwest to the southeast.

Although these rains are expected to be weak and dispersed in the southern third of the peninsula and the Levant, greater intensity is anticipated in the west of the Central system and Galicia. These precipitations are expected to begin in the morning and could be persistent and locally strong, especially on the Atlantic coast, where large amounts will accumulate.

In the Canary Islands, on the other hand, a more stable day is expected with slightly cloudy skies or with intervals, and a low probability of weak and occasional rainfall in the western islands. Regarding temperatures, a general increase is expected, especially in the minimum temperatures in the northwest, where notable increases are anticipated.

Frosts will be mainly restricted to the Pyrenees, Iberia and Cantabria. The snow level will be between 1,200 and 1,400 meters in the Pyrenees, with accumulations above 2,200 meters, descending in the Cantabrian mountain range to 1,600-1,800 meters.

In the region of Andalusia, Aemet forecasts cloudy skies with the possibility of weak and occasional rainfall, being more probable and occasionally moderate at the end of the day on the Atlantic slope. In addition, morning mists and fogs are expected, especially on the Atlantic slope. Temperatures will experience a rise of two to four degrees in some provinces, reaching a maximum of 20 degrees in Seville, although in others they will remain unchanged.

The winds will be weak and variable, tending towards a westerly component, with an increase to moderate on the coast and high areas, with strong intervals in the eastern third at the end of the day. In the Strait, moderate easterly winds will be recorded, turning to the west in the afternoon.

The General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior of the Xunta has activated an orange alert due to intense rains in the southwest of A Coruña and in the Rías Baixas, in the province of Pontevedra. According to the AEMET, accumulated rainfall of 80 millimeters is expected in 12 hours. In addition, a yellow alert will be issued for rain of between 40 and 70 millimeters in 12 hours in the west of A Coruña, the northwest of Ourense and the interior and the Miño area of Pontevedra.

The yellow alert will also be activated for coastal storms along the entire Galician coast and for onshore winds with gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour in the west of A Coruña and the A Mariña region of Lugo. Given these adverse conditions, the Xunta recommends driving with caution, informing yourself about the state of the roads, avoiding crossing flooded areas and not parking on river banks.

The Aemet has announced similar alerts for other regions, such as Castilla-La Mancha, where a cloudy or overcast day is expected with rain and showers in the afternoon. Minimum temperatures will experience a rise, while maximum temperatures will remain unchanged or slightly rising. Weak frosts are also expected in parts of Iberia.

In the Balearic Islands, cloudy intervals are forecast that will increase to cloudy or overcast in the afternoon, with the probability of some weak precipitation during the night. In addition, morning mists will be recorded, without ruling out some fog banks. The minimum temperatures will experience a drop, with some light frost in Mallorca, while the maximum temperatures will experience a slight rise. The southwest wind will be light, increasing to moderate in the afternoon.
