As the weather maps show, the arrival of a trough—a barometric depression that penetrates between two high-pressure zones in the form of a valley—and colder air in the north of the peninsula will lower temperatures, first in the north and then in the rest. from the country
The rain will arrive weakly in the north and during the afternoon of this Monday storms will form in the center, with strong wind and hail without being ruled out.
This change in weather occurs after a weekend that was “extraordinarily warm for the time of year in most of Spain,” according to Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
However, Del Campo pointed out that the thermometers marked "between 7 and 15 degrees above normal", especially in the northern third of the peninsula and the Canary Islands, where "midsummer" temperatures were recorded.
During the first two days of this week, temperatures will drop in the northern half of the peninsula, a drop that in the Cantabrian Sea will be up to about 10 degrees compared to Sunday.
In the rest of the country, especially in the center and south of the peninsula, there will be no changes until Wednesday, when the thermal drop will also reach those areas.
"However, it must be said that, for the whole of the week, the atmosphere will remain warm for the time of year in a good part of the center and south of the peninsula, and also in the Canary Islands, although in the archipelago with less heat than in these previous days,” said Del Campo.
The Aemet prediction indicates that the hottest capitals will be Murcia and Seville this Monday (31 degrees), Seville on Tuesday (32), Seville on Wednesday (31); Badajoz, Córdoba, Granada and Seville on Thursday (27th); Seville on Friday (28), Pontevedra on Saturday (28) and Pontevedra and Seville on Sunday (28).

The highlight of this Monday will be the rains and showers in the extreme north of the peninsula, which, in the afternoon, as a result of the development of evolving cloudiness, may also extend to the interior of the southern half, especially to the southeast, without ruling out that some showers may be locally strong.
Temperatures will drop in the northern half and the decrease will be pronounced in the Cantabrian Sea, Navarra and northern Aragon. Instead, they will rise in the extreme south of the peninsula.
This Tuesday the north winds will be noticeable, which will be intense on the Galician coast, the Ebro valley and Ampurdán (Girona). Otherwise, it will be very cloudy in Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees, with rain that could also reach the northeast of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. The snow level will drop to 1,100 meters in the Pyrenees and 1,400 meters in the Cantabrian Mountains.
Temperatures will continue their decline in the north and the Balearic Islands, a drop that will be more pronounced in the northeast of the peninsula. However, they will continue to rise somewhat in the southern end of the peninsula.
On Wednesday, the northerly winds will continue, bringing clouds to the north of Galicia, the Cantabrian Sea and the Pyrenees, where rain is expected and it could even snow above 900 to 1,200 meters. There will also be showers in eastern Catalonia and the Balearic Islands.
The sky will be slightly cloudy or clear in the rest of the country and intense winds will blow in the northeast of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
Temperatures will continue to drop in the northern half and a drop will begin in the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, as well as in other areas of the center and south of the peninsula.
“Cities like Valencia, Alicante or Palma will be below 20 degrees and the provincial capitals of the northern half will be around 15 to 18 degrees. In the south, cities like Seville and Córdoba will exceed 30 degrees,” Del Campo summarized.
On Thursday and Friday, the influence of high pressures will most likely continue, although somewhat weakened, which will favor a slight increase in instability.
Although in general slightly cloudy skies will predominate in the mornings during these two days, from midday evolution clouds will begin to form, which may give rise to scattered showers accompanied by storms, more likely on Thursday in the interior of the southern half and the Friday in that area and points in Galicia and the Northern Plateau.
The early mornings of those two days will be cold and it could even freeze in mountain areas of the northern half of the peninsula and nearby areas.
Aemet data indicate that the spring broke records for the hottest day ever recorded in April last Thursday at the Tenerife South airport (38.3 degrees, the highest temperature since data collection began in 1980) and Vigo (30.8, since 1957).
The same thing happened on Friday in Ourense (33.9, April record since 1973), on Saturday at Girona airport (31.6, since 1973) and Vitoria airport (29.2, since 1973), and on Sunday at the Fabra observatory, Barcelona (29.4, since 1914).
