Catalonia and the Canary Islands, on orange alert due to rough seas and winds of 90 kilometers per hour

The Canary Islands and Catalonia are on orange alert (significant risk) due to rough seas and gusts of wind of 90 kilometers per hour, phenomena caused by the arrival of the storm Pierrick, which will be felt during the first hours of Tuesday, according to the forecast the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The wind will blow strongly, especially on the coast of Tarragona, with gusts from the northwest of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour (force 8).

Furthermore, the yellow alert (risk for certain activities) due to snow in the Val d'Aran is activated in the Catalan community, as are seven other communities due to some of these inclemencies.

The Canary Islands are also at orange risk level due to wind gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour on the islands of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and La Gomera, although in general the wind will blow strongly on all the islands.

Other communities in the yellow level due to wind, snow at high altitudes or stormy weather are Aragón, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Galicia, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community, according to the agency.

Storm Pierrick will also leave snow in the north of the peninsula, southwestern Asturias, as well as the mountain range and Picos de Europa, where snow thicknesses of five centimeters will accumulate in 24 hours above 1,100 meters.

It will also snow in the Val d'Aran (Lleida), where 5 centimeters above 1,200 meters will accumulate in 24 hours.
